Planting Over 26,000 Trees in 2013

Planting Over 26,000 Trees in 2013 - Zavida Coffee

"Why plant trees? Because they change lives. They provide food, forage for animals, and wood for fuel and construction. They increase agricultural yields, improve water infiltration and aquifer recharge, and protect soils from wind and water erosion." Trees for the Future

We have been truly fortunate to find an organization as committed to tree planting as Trees for the Future. Founded in 1989 by Dave and Grace Deppner, Trees for the Future is committed to helping local farmers and communities plant trees through training, seed distribution and technical assistance.

Their efforts have resulted in planting almost 65,000,000 million trees around the world. Some trees for food, some trees for firewood and construction, some to increase soil quality and erosion resistance, and others, like the ones we have committed to planting, for shade cover around coffee farms in Honduras.

We started our partnership with Trees for the future in 2009. Since then, we have planted over 40,000 trees. We are very happy to announce that in 2013, we have committed to planting over 26,000 trees in Honduras around coffee farms once again.

Our tree planting efforts are a two-part program. First, we achieve an annual Carbon Neutral designation by planting enough trees to absorb all of the carbon we emit every year. Second, we plant a tree for each and every product sold at www.zavida.com. Here are some pictures from the results of last’s years combined efforts:

We are happy that the dedicated team at Trees for the Future in Maryland continues doing such a great job and we look forward to many more successful years.
