3 Alternative Coffee Brewing Methods

There are many brewing methods to make your perfect cup of joe. Here at Zavida Coffee Company we love all things coffee and wanted to explore some different ways to brew our 100% Arabica, environmentally sustainable, handcrafted coffee. Here are three popular ways you can make your perfect cup of coffee.

Chemex

The Chemex Coffeemaker uses the infusion or drip method. The hourglass-shaped carafe is made from a non-porous, borosilicate glass. What does that mean for your coffee? The glass will not absorb odors or chemical residues, leaving a cleaner, more pure coffee taste. The design of this coffee maker has not changed in over 70 years and is on permanent exhibit at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Using their double bonded paper filters makes for a slower brew but a richer cup of coffee.

The Chemex cup of coffee boasts a sediment-free drink. The taste is excellent if your preference is a light, rich, and cleaner cup of coffee.

Cowboy

Have you had a cup of joe made the Cowboy way? It’s not known as the best tasting cup of coffee; in fact, most complain of its terrible, bitter taste. But it doesn't have to be that way. The Cowboy coffee is one of the simplest ways to make a cup. The recipe calls for commingling coffee grounds and boiling water. That's all it is. This simple process is the basis for other ways of brewing.

Whether you're going camping in the great outdoors or in your own backyard, as long as you have access to good ground coffee beans, a way to boil water, and a tin pot for brewing, you can make a delicious cup of Cowboy coffee. The result will be a rich, bold flavor but know there will be grounds swirling around your cup as you experience the Old West on the range.

Moka Pot

The Moka Pot uses steam pressure to brew espresso. This eight-sided coffee maker is typically made from aluminum but can be made from stainless steel. When heated, the pressurized steam passes boiling water over the grounds.

A dense, strong, vibrant cup of espresso is what you will be sipping on. To keep from getting a bitter, dirty coffee taste keep your pot clean, grind your beans just before use, don't tap down your grounds, and make sure to use hot water.

No matter what your favorite brew process may be, the first step is to pick good, quality beans. From dark to medium light roasts, at Zavida Coffee Company we have a great variety of beans from across the world, including organic, to please your taste buds.
