How to Make an Apple Pie Smoothie Bowl This Fall
Are you bored with traditional breakfast staples like toast, cereal or waffles? A smoothie bowl may be just what you need! With a thicker consistency than a smoothie you’d drink, our apple pie smoothie bowl is substantial and includes protein-rich ingredients that will keep you going until lunchtime.
A Healthier Version of Apple Pie
Though you can make a smoothie bowl with just about any fruit as the base, since it’s getting colder – hello fall – we thought we’d use an autumn favourite for inspiration: apple pie. This smoothie bowl has all the flavor of an old-fashioned apple pie, but with a healthy twist. Gone is the butter, salt, oils and lard, and we replaced pie pastry with rolled oats. For a hint of caramel and a touch of sweetness we used maple syrup - which has many surprising health benefits!
Toppings Add Texture
What really distinguishes this from a run-of-the-mill smoothie is the toppings. If you feel like you can’t look at another bowl of cereal, try making this smoothie bowl and top with granola, nuts (we went with pecans), and apple slices drizzled with maple syrup. There’s no way anyone would call this boring, and your mouth will come alive with all the flavor!
An Extra Boost of Flavor
But what really sets our apple pie smoothie bowl apart from all the rest is our special ingredient: Zavida’s Apple Pie Flavor Shot. Imagine the taste of fresh apple pie, still warm from the oven, distilled into a liquid that has all the notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger that we associate with apple pie filling. With only two squirts needed to make our smoothie bowl go from okay to wow, you’ll be able to satisfy your apple pie craving year-round! Our Flavor Shots are so concentrated that you can flavor 300 cups of coffee – or smoothie bowls!
Smoothie Bowls are Protein-Rich
Another reason we like this smoothie bowl, as opposed to a bowl of cereal, is the amount of protein it has. Let’s face it, most cereals are sugary filler that are void of any real nutritional value. True, many cereals are fortified with vitamins, but they don’t have the protein needed to fill us up and keep us satiated until our next meal. Our apple pie smoothie bowl recipe has milk (or milk alternative), Greek yogurt, granola, pecans and rolled oats to make sure we’re not snacking all morning long.
For a great start to the day, blend up a smoothie bowl and take a few minutes to savour. We also recommend pairing it with a steaming cup of coffee to add a little caffeine kick to your day!
