Three Unique Ways to Celebrate Independence Day
It's that time of year again! The sun is warm, the kids are out of school, and we're beginning to feel refreshed and rejuvenated from the freedom that summer brings. Now it's the Fourth of July, the hallmark of summer: a classic celebration for our nation where we indulge in barbecues, swimming, alcohol (for the adults), apple pie, and, of course, fireworks. It wouldn't be the Fourth without our friends and family. It's a day where we can relax, have fun, and enjoy being human. But maybe you're looking for a new tradition or simply something unique to do to celebrate this year. Maybe you feel like connecting to the country you call home and want to enjoy its riches and roots. Or maybe you're just wanting to fill time before the afternoon cookout. No matter what you're looking for, we have three outside-the-box ways to celebrate your independence with your friends and family:
Get out into nature
Go on a nature walk or a hike and enjoy the gorgeous scenery the U.S. has to offer. From deserts to glaciers, and rain forests to swamps, there's always beauty lurking around your home, and you'll be amazed at how refreshed you feel after reconnecting with nature. We live in an amazing part of the natural world, and there's no better way to experience and appreciate it than exploring it! American Trails is an excellent resource to find hikes and walks near you, and, best of all, you'll be burning off extra calories for that extra slice of pie. It's a guilt-free way to celebrate!
Find an organization you love and volunteer for a morning, afternoon, or the whole day.
Volunteering with friends and family is an incredibly fun way to spend the day, reconnect, and help the community around you. There are plenty of ways you can help from volunteering at a local homeless shelter, helping an animal shelter (may take some training beforehand depending on where you go), cleaning roads and trails, maintaining that beautiful hiking trail you chose, setting up for evening fireworks at the park, working local sporting events, and more. There are so many ways to give to your local community. As a country who prides itself on community and helping those in need, why not lend a helping hand this year? Meetup and Volunteer Match are great sources to find local events and opportunities.
Watch some historical documentaries.
We know, it sounds peculiar, but there's nothing like a well-done documentary. And what better way is there to celebrate our nation than by learning about it? This isn't your average history class: documentaries are often riddled with gorgeous imagery and crazy fun facts you never could have imagined. Settle down with friends and family for the show while you wait to go see the fireworks or have it on in the background as you cook, and get ready to have your mind blown.
No matter how you choose to celebrate, we hope you have fun! Meetup with friends and family, try something new, and make memories together.
We at Zavida wish you a Happy Fourth of July!
